The Met Collection Online – Metropolitan Museum Digital Archive
History: The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York began its digital initiatives early, with its “Open Access” policy launched in 2017 making a vast portion of its collection freely available.
Functionality: Features over 500,000 high-resolution images of works from The Met’s collection. Each entry includes detailed curatorial information, and users can filter by department, culture, date, and material. All images tagged as “Public Domain” can be downloaded and used for any purpose.
Future Plans: To continue digitising its entire 1.5 million+ object collection and to develop new online research tools and educational resources.
